Sometimes your pillow is not as fluffy as you expected it, or needed it to be for your specific level of comfort. Or maybe you have had your pillow for a while and it needs to be fluffed up again to its original state.
Some of us like our pillows softer or firmer than others. Fortunately, there are ways to adjust and fluff up your pillow.
If you are looking for a way to fluff up your pregnancy pillow, you are in luck; we have several great ways to accomplish this.
Below you will find step by step instructions on how to fluff up your pillow for each technique. You do not need to do all the techniques, just pick your favorite and go with it.
These techniques will work on pillows filled with polyester microfibers or shredded foam chunk pieces.
WHY SHOULD YOU FLUFF YOUR PREGNANCY PILLOW?
The feel and firmness can change as your pillow compresses.
Over time, the filling in your pillow can become flattened or compressed from using it night after night, and you could start to experience issues with spinal alignment and a poor angle in your head and neck.
Sleeping on a pillow that is the correct height, loft, and overall firmness and feel for your primary sleep position, you’re releasing any pressure on your head, neck, and spine.
Fluffing your pregnancy pillow increases the chances that you’ll wake up feeling amazing and refreshed each morning (instead of stiff, achy, or in pain).
FLUFFING YOU PILLOW BY HAND
There are a couple of ways to fluff your pillow by hand. The first is to act like you’re playing the accordion. The steps are below:
Grab your pillow and place it on your lap
Push the pillow in and out as if you are playing the accordion
Do step number 2 on the short and long sides of the pillow (This will break up any pieces and allow air to increase the pillow’s loft)
Another way to fluff up your pillow by hand is to message it. Work your hands into the pillow as if you are massaging it. This will break up any big chunks and it will re-distribute them, increasing the loft, height, and overall feel.
FLUFFING YOUR PILLOW IN THE DRYER
If the care instructions on your pillow allow for it, you may throw your pillow in the dryer.
You may need to set the dryer at a low temperature to avoid damaging the filling.
You may also put a tennis ball inside a white sock (the white sock will protect your pillow from being stained with the color of the tennis ball), and toss it in the dryer along with the pillow. The tennis ball will bounce around, breaking up any pieces, and increasing the fluff of your pillow.
FLUFFING YOUR PILLOW OUTSIDE
If your pillow is brand new, you may want to leave your pillow outside, in a sunny spot, where there is a breeze. This will not only let your pillow expand and fluff your pillow, but it can help it breath, getting rid of any chemical smells that may need to air out.
WHAT TO DO IF YOUR PILLOW SIMPLY DID NOT COME WITH ENOUGH FLUFF
There are a couple of options if your pillow did not come with enough fluff for your liking.
Most pillows come with a zipper where you can adjust, add, or change the filling inside your pillow.
The first option is to contact the seller or manufacturer of the pillow. Many times, if you simply ask the seller/manufacturer will be more than glad to send you some additional filling.
If this is not an option, then you can buy additional filling for your pillow and add to it. The small cost is well worth your comfort. Below are some options available.
